On 4/28/99, Engine 91 upon arrival to a reported roof fire at a single story single family
residence, found a civilian, Mr. Tim Gaines with a garden hose extinguishing the fire. Mr.
Gaines was driving by when he saw the fire, parked his truck and climbed upon the roof of
the Hayashi family (who he has never met) and prevented further damage to the shake
shingle roof.

On 10/05/99 Joanne started effective CPR (including mouth to mouth) prior to paramedic
arrival and continued to assist with CPR compressions until she was relieved by the engine
company.

Upon arrival to the scene at 2023 Andreo Ave., Diana and Armando utilized the garden hoses of the properties involved to attack a house fire.
Covering the exposure to the North, which was under construction, they kept the exposed
lumber safe from flames. They continued to assist until relieved by the Torrance Fire
Department, shutting down their hoses and resumed responsibility to their schedule as two
young citizens on their way to Torrance High School. |

Mayor Hardison,Dan Gleason and Firefighter Tad Friedman.On 11/10/99 a traffic accident occurred with an overturned vehicle as a
result. Mr. Gleason without regard to this danger crawled into the vehicle to help comfort
and stabilize the patient until TFD arrived on the scene. He acted on his own accord and
after TFD arrived just slid into the background.

On 3/19/00, 7 year old Ashley Root called 911 for
her mother who was having a severe asthma attack. Patty Root was in such distress, she
could not talk and her home nebulizer was not relieving her symptoms.

On 4/17/00 Marie Louviere initiated mouth to mouth resuscitation on one victim in
respiratory arrest immediately after a traffic accident. Miss Louviere entered the vehicle
through the rear window and began the mouth to mouth. This caused her to get large amounts
of blood in her mouth, on her hands and sweatshirt. After approximately 30-40 ventilations
the victim began breathing again. The two others, Laura Shipley (nurse)& Dean Hall,
removed the victim from the car and maintained an airway until TFD arrived and assumed
patient care. |
