
Scholarships
Each year, The Torrance Fire Fighters Association awards 6
scholarships in the amount of $750.00 to graduating seniors from each high school within
the City of Torrance. The schools included are West High, North High, South High, Torrance
High, Bishop Montgomery, and Shery. One Scholarship will be awarded to a
student from each school based on the following criteria.
- Scholastics
- Personality
- Interest
- Attitude
- Need
Requirements:
- All graduating seniors in the above high schools are eligible.
- Applicants must have proof of citizenship or show proof that they
have applied for citizenship.
- Applicants must be unmarried at the time of grant.
- High school transcripts and photograph (not returnable) must be
sent with application
- Applicants must have attended Torrance High Schools all 4 years.
- Applicants must attend an accredited 4 year college to receive
grant. Grant will be held for student if they first attend a junior or other college.
- Applicants must carry at least 12 units.
- Any variations in above rules will be decided by the scholarship
committee subject to review by the Torrance Fire Fighters Executive board.
The scholarship counselor from each high school
shall submit six applicants to the TFFA scholarship chairperson by May 1rst of each
year. Three finalist from each school shall be selected for interview by the scholarship
committee. Recipient shall be selected from the three finalist and committee decision
shall be final. Recipients shall be honored with plaques at an awards luncheon hosted by
the TFFA at a site determined by the scholarship committee. Invited guests shall include
recipients parents and guardians, school counselors, mayor, city council, fire chief and
staff, scholarship committee and the Torrance Fire Fighters Association Executive Board.
